FBI paid Geek Squad repair staff as informants

Hello Readers!

This is big news! The news may not be a shock to some, but Best Buy’s Geek Squad has been working alongside the FBI in order to collect data on customer hard drive information.  It’s very disturbing information released this week by ZDNet and EFF (links below if anyone wants to read the full report).

I never liked Geek Squad’s practices. I’ve never considered getting repairs done by Geek Squad employees or having them touch my computer since often times young inexperience adults love to snoop around with customer HDD (hard drive data). Also many of them don’t know how to repair your computer properly.

In the past, I’d go to a small computer repair shop if I wanted to get anything fixed. Now that I’m older and wiser, I know that I can never trust anyone to touch my computer and never want anyone digging up anything on me.  The best rule of thumb is to go out and purchase an external hard drive to back-up your data. Never trust backing-up by the cloud. At the end of the day, it’s YOUR information. It needs to be secured – whether it’s photos or documents. And you need to take control of HOW your privacy is protected.

When it comes to corporations and government agencies working together, you know your civil liberties are going to be taken away!
